FAQ
Q: How and when did you get started in spoken word ?
A: I always have had a passion for creative writing from Grade 3, I wrote short stories, novels, song-writing and even attempted to write raps during grade 6 till maybe grade 10. The idea of spoken word was so new to me, since all I was taught was like Shakespeare pretty much. But someone who's very dear to me always told me to keep writing, and maybe I can try spoken word, since that time I wanted to receive vocal training to pursue a singing career. Then I got the final push from my fellow sisters in Christ when I was hosting a fundraiser for few brothers to go on a mission trip to Kenya, and then I end up performing in St. Louis, Missouri in 2012. After that, I pretty much called myself a spoken word artist.
Q: What themes or/and topics do you get drawn to write about?
A: There so many that I have collections & collections of notebooks (cause I'm a notebook junkie) that deals with different issues. However, the main topics I write about are my relationship with Yahweh, self identity, personal testimonies, guilt, and I like to focus on anything that its a taboo to society, something that people rather push under the rug.
Q: What inspires you and motivates you to write?
A: Life, the life I was given to live, through the roller coaster of events and emotions. To the stories that I hear, my loved ones and strangers. They all inspire me to write what I write. To hear few people come up to me after I perform my personal poetry about few situations I dealt with, it motivates me constantly. Every time I doubt it people get anything out of it, someone comes to me and just share their story and its very touching. That's why I encourage anyone who has questions about a piece, a comment or just wants to chat, please please come up, I love insightful conversations.
